A most entertaining and educational experience with beautiful gardens to wander around, plus a pleasing cafe with outdoor tables looking out over Coniston Water. The house tour provided an introductory film, informative placards and worthwhile items to view. These helped expand on John Ruskin's life and that of his family and friends. There were many good books about him and his connections, available at the house shop. While the ground floor seemed accessible for those less able, the necessary steps for this house, may prevent accessing the first floor. Easily accessed parking and cafe. House entrance fee is reasonable. Views are worth the visit on their own but knowing more of this man was worthwhile too!
4 stars for the grounds alone. Relatively small but packed with details and consistently beautiful views of Coniston water. I have visited the house previously and very much enjoyed it. You get a real sense of how important John Ruskin was and of how ahead of his time he was in his artistic and ecological view of the world. As a side note I would definitely recommend arriving via the Coniston steam gondola for the extra fee. The knowledge gained on board and experience of crossing the lake to Ruskin's house really rounds out the day.

This is an amazing steam yacht and experience. The sound of water and a steam engine is perfect! This is a beautifully restored steam yacht restored by the national trust. It was built in the 1850s. The steam engine is not the original one used however I would think it is similar to the one originally used. It is great watching the people work the steam engine. The boat is quite ornate and well restored. It also has seats and furnishings that look original. It is a small but beautiful yacht. The surrounding area looks great and it's all very scenic. The workers are also enthusiasts and are very friendly. It is owned by the national trust now and it's amazing that they were able to open it to the public. It is definitely worth the money and definitely visit if you are in the area. It is a unique experience and nothing like simply taking a speedboat around a lake! And for both enthusiasts and people who are not enthusiasts it is worth a visit. It is one of my favourite attractions in the lake district and as a steam enthusiast it is a thing ticked off the list of steam powered machinery I want to go to!
Wonderful experience on the Steam Yacht Gondola, observing the beautiful scenic landscapes of Coniston. Intelligent, articulate commentary from the Crew without being intrusive of the viewing experience. A thoroughly enjoyable day out on the "long" tour of The lake. Many thanks!

One of the nicest campsites iv ever been to. Great location, much better than the one which is right by the lake as in Hoathwaite you can actually see the lake where as on the closer one you can't! Reasonably priced & with good facilities apart from there being no mirrors in the loos or shower block a small point I know but would have been useful. Lovely walk by the lake to Coniston only takes a short time. All in all a very good spot.
Fantastic campsite. Lovely area, nice nearby village. The campsite was dog friendly, the people were friendly, the warden was very helpful. The top section was very quiet. The facilities were really impressive as I was expecting them to be much more basic. Loos, shower, toilet roll, drinking water, paper towels. Theres one electric socket available while the warden is on site so if you have a plug in air bed make sure you get there morning-lunch. Amazing place, I'll definitely be returning
