East of Lake, Coniston LA21 8AD, UK – 015394 41396
A really beautiful arts and crafts style house on the shore of Coniston Water. Former home of the artist and social reformer, John Ruskin. Road access is a bit tight down a single track lane so why not come over by lake steamer from Coniston? You could even use the beautiful Gondola, a real steam powered vessel. Brantwood has it's own jetty where the lake steamers will stop on request.
John Ruskin was here! Interesting story and memorabilia from the life of a less-recognised polymath. Large garden for strolling around, pleasant tearoom, accommodation available and ferry transport across the lake to / from Coniston. (See timetable!)
The Tarns, Ambleside LA22 0PP, UK
Really nice place for a stroll. National Trust had lots of activities for the kids to explore nature. Parking area has toilets available
Brilliant location. A little off the beaten track so less crowded than other parts of the Lake District
One of my favourite places in the lakes. Great walks for every level. And water activity from kyacking to open water swimming. Pubs and food are faultless. Oslo plenty of camping sites in and around the village. Let's not forget the history behind the mines and Donald Campbell. With the bluebird.
Lovely place to visit for views & walks. Cafe does nice food to
